Physical Therapy and Sports: Help Rehabilitation With A Massage Chair

by John McFadden

Amateur and professional athletes alike both know that injury comes hand in hand with sports. Sports by its very nature are geared to push the limits of individuals to remain competitive. As boundaries are pushed, limits will be crossed. This is when injuries happen. However, the body is very resilient and with the help of the physical therapy programs recovery times are minimal. These advanced therapy programs build a regimen of activities to restore health and vitality to the affected areas. Many programs require the use of exercise equipment, massage chairs and stretching elements.

If you start a physical therapy program, then you will be assigned a physical therapist. The therapist is a trained professional to help restore your strength, motion and activity. The therapist understands the mechanics of your body and will help design a treatment program for you. You will learn specific stretches, exercises and other specialized techniques to help your body recover. You may also use specific equipment that can address particular issues. Massage therapy has become an important tool in the recovery arsenal and many clinics are making use of massage chair recliners.

Your therapist is trained in different surgeries, treatments and rehabilitation techniques and goals. The therapist will design a recovery treatment targeting the areas of your body that needs greater flexibility or strength. If you are recovering from surgery, then the therapist will be knowledgeable about different surgical procedures. The therapist will help in setting goals as you work through the initial limitations of your physique. Some of the important physical therapy tools are stretching, exercises and massage therapy.

Stretching is important to help regain lost flexibility. The muscles may be tight, the joints stiff and you may have scar tissue. These reduce your range of motion and decrease flexibility. Stretching helps to elongate the muscles. This helps to stretch the muscles helping their elasticity. A frequent and continuous regimen of daily stretching helps to speed recovery. Your therapist will design a stretching routine which will help focus on restoring the range of motion.

Exercises are important to help rebuild strength. When we have an injury, we tend to protect that area. Protecting that area is usually to isolate and immobilize it. In other words, we tend not to use the injured area. This helps to prevent further injury, but at the expense of strength and conditioning. To help rebuild the body, exercises help to build up strength, endurance and agility. Physical therapy clinics have a wide array of exercise equipment from treadmills, stationary bikes, weights and more. These help you focus building up a particular set of muscles.

When you are recovering from surgery most likely you will have new scar tissue. Scar tissue needs to be made more pliable through time. This will enhance the flexibility of the affected area. The mobility of the muscle and also the skin is at stake here. Massage therapy has been shown to increase the flexibility of muscles. Your muscles when injured may also have the muscle fibers break into short units. This reduces their flexibility. The muscles need to be more pliable by elongating the muscle fibers. Massage chairs use kneading and pressing massage techniques to relieve tight muscles and elongate the muscle fibers to restore their flexibility.

Whether you are a professional tennis player or a beginner skier, injuries can happen to anyone. If you do find yourself in physical therapy, work on setting goals to recover. Find yourself an excellent physical therapy clinic. Make sure they have qualified people, proper exercise equipment and massage therapy. And if you need massage therapy, make sure a massage chair is part of your recovery plans.

The Human Character Of Leigh Steinberg

by Frank Langelo

Super Bowl 2009 is upon us. Being a big football fan, I've been reading with fervor every thing that I can find out about the upcoming game. While I was surfing the Internet, I came across and article on SportsAgentBlog.com about an interview with the legendary Leigh Steinberg.

I'm sure there a ton of you who remember Leigh Steinberg from his glory days of representing the greats like Troy Aikman and Joe Montana. He was also inspirational to the movie with Tom Cruise, called "Jerry Maguire." That movie probably created the movement toward more sports agents.

I read with great interest how Leigh Steinberg is trying to turn this industry into one that is build on mutual trust, respect and integrity. He is really trying to further the collaboration amongst sports agents to ensure a more positive and encouraging environment.

I was really impressed to learn how Mr. Steinberg is a caring individual, not just for the athletes that he represents but also in the way that he believes that athletes should represent themselves. He stresses the importance of the athlete in giving back by coming role models, especially since sports is such a revered activity here in America.

After reading the blog, I began to understand that Leigh Steinberg is a man of integrity. He also talked about his belief in ensuring the future for generations to come relative to global warming and caring for our planet. He also practiced what he preached, by working with companies to encourage "green" within the sport.

From my perspective, I have always had the impression that athletes and sports agents didnt care about anything but show me the money. There have been plenty of examples of greedy athletes and self-promoting sports agents who give the industry a bad reputation.

I get the sense that Mr. Steinberg is really trying to make a difference, especially in the sport of football and not just think of the dollars in front of his face. For example, hes advocating for better awareness and protection for players due to concussions. As I recall, this was a huge issue for Steve Young back when he was playing for the San Francisco 49ers. It seemed like he would incur a concussion almost every single game.

Athletes seem to lean toward a particular political party, based on a description by Leigh Steinberg. It generally stems from the amount of taxes that they pay even from their first paycheck. I found that particular section in the blog pretty interesting because I never put athletes into that context before.

I came away feeling, after reading this article, that Leigh Steinberg is really a man of honor. He is more than a popular, wealthy sports agent and really a man of character who cares for individuals and causes.

I encourage any who reads my article to take the time and read this blog. Youll understand the difference between a sports agent and quality, compassionate human being.

The Joy Of Live Football Games

by Kevin Owen

For millions of fans worldwide, going to and watching their favorite soccer teams play each week is a joy. The experience is likely unmatched by anything else they have in their lives. It becomes a ritual of sorts and they eagerly anticipate the routine every time.

Traveling to football matches can provide as much of an adrenalin rush as the game itself. This can be the same when going to a match alone or with a group of friends. Fan clubs can organize large get-togethers before games, building up fantastic atmospheres as they head to the stadiums.

Banners are also made by fans and carried to the stadium. They are often hung around the turnstiles or lifted above a section of the most loyal fans. These banners will proclaim their support for the teams, while decorating the surroundings with much needed color.

While most of the cheering is done inside the grounds, doing it outside, before and after the games are equally important. For the uninitiated, watching the loud crowds going to and from matches and singing their hearts out can be inspiring and intimidating at the same time. But it is an integral part of creating the right environment for a great day out for soccer.

It can a once in a lifetime experience to visit a live soccer match and hear the boisterous atmosphere that permeates the occasion. The songs and cheers can often be heard even outside the stadium enclosures. Even the non-football fan cannot avoid feeling an exhilarating sensation influenced by the joy and passion from the fans.

Musical instruments and other objects are also allowed in most grounds to help create such atmospheres. These include horns, drums, whistles and the ever popular balloon clapping sticks. They contribute to the rowdy noise and positive energy that seeps from the stands to the teams on the pitch.

A common scene in Italian and Eastern European football matches is the use of flares. While this can be a danger risk to fans and players, they are allowed and can drench the whole stadium in color and smoke. Turkish fans are also famous for using them widely to create an intimidating atmosphere for visiting supporters.

With so much happening before and during soccer matches, it is no wonder that fans are so devoted to traveling in support of their teams. It not only shows their devotion, but the thrills and excitement of doing so can provide mood lifts whatever the situation. Many of them go on to do this for the rest of their lives, and even pass it on from generation to generation.
