<p>Intervertebral disks are another cause of pain. Intervertebral disks are fluid filled cartilaginous disks that cushion and lubricate the vertebrae. As people age the disks shrink in size, this causes the vertebrae to grind against one another resulting in pain.</p>
<p>Sometimes surgery is required to correct the ruptured or herniated disks that are responsible for back pain. Trauma or excessive force is generally responsible for ruptured disks.</p>
